Discovering the hidden gems of Sanlucar de Barrameda: fantastic sea food and beautiful sunsets.

We did make a trip to Sanlúcar de Barrameda and stayed for 4 days in a 4-star hotel close to the beach. It was Adrian's birthday, so he really wanted to go there to taste the best shrimp in the world.

We also did a lot of other things while we were there; we explored the town and the surrounding places, and we tried some different foods and wines while. We also took one day to explore the city of Cadiz and walk around that historical place.


While we were there, we tried to gather as much information about the place as we always do while we are traveling.

Historical info


We cant skip taking about the historival things ,Sanlúcar de Barrameda is a picturesque town located on the Costa de la Luz (Coast of Light) in the province of Cádiz, Andalusia, Spain.

It has a population of around 70,000 residents. The town is steeped in history and offers a delightful blend of cultural heritage, natural beauty, and culinary delights.


The town played a crucial role in the maritime exploration of the New World.

In 1498, Christopher Columbus set sail from Sanlúcar on his third voyage to the Americas. The town's strategic location at the mouth of the Guadalquivir River made it an important port for subsequent expeditions to the New World.


The historic center of Sanlúcar de Barrameda is a delight to explore



Its narrow, winding streets are lined with whitewashed houses adorned with colorful flower pots and traditional Andalusian architecture. The Plaza del Cabildo, the main square, is a vibrant hub where locals and visitors gather. It's a great place to relax, enjoy a drink at one of the outdoor cafes, bars and soak in the lively atmosphere.It is such a nice feeling to sit there and just take it all in with traditional tapas, glas of good Manzanilla wine or some freshly seafood.We did go in to 3 palces athe Plaza ,Barbiana,Taberna Cabildoto and Gozo SlowFood-you can check here what we ate and how it was. 🙌

The annual Feria de la Manzanilla, held in spring, celebrates the town's winemaking heritage with flamenco, music, and, of course, plenty of Manzanilla.i most of the bars you can order this golden delicacy, but be careful it is strong and has a really special flavor bites your taste buds.

Sanlúcar de Barrameda is also famous for its annual horse racing event, known as the "Carreras de Caballos de Sanlúcar." It officially dates back since the first edition in the beach town in the year 1845, when the Sociedad de Carreras de Caballos de Sanlucar de Barrameda was formed. It is held on the beaches during two separate weeks in August, this unique spectacle draws horse racing enthusiasts from near and far. The horses gallop along the shore, creating a thrilling and unforgettable experience.

Natural park

Nature lovers will appreciate Sanlúcar's proximity to the Doñana National Park. This vast protected area is one of Europe's most important nature reserves and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is home to diverse ecosystems, including marshes, dunes, and forests, and supports a wide array of wildlife, including the endangered Iberian lynx and numerous bird species. There is a boats that takes pasagners over to the park as you can not enter on your own,exept with a guide. Guided tours and birdwatching excursions are available for visitors to explore the park's natural wonders. It was fasinating to sit at the beach and wach the boat on the river and sail over to the park.
